EFT – Emotional Freedom Technique

From time to time we can all feel a little emotional or lack control but when these emotions start to prevent us living life to the full or put restrictions upon our daily lives it is time to take action.

EFT is a quick easy procedure to assist you in dealing with any negative emotion, trauma or anxiety that you may be holding on to and is aimed at returning your mind, body and feelings back to a state of balance and harmony.  All negative emotions disrupt the body’s energy system, so any negative thoughts have an emotional response.  Using EFT which is a meridian energy therapy, we work on the acupressure points of your body by tapping to balance the body’s energy system for the feelings you want to change.  It’s a little like clearing a log which is blocking the flow of water in a stream.

The amazing thing is you don’t actually have to believe in EFT for it to work, it just does!  For example, I haven’t a clue what my mechanic does to my car when I take it to the garage but  I don’t need to as long as he does his job and my car works for me.

So, what can you expect in an EFT session?

Quite simply you will sit in a chair, (fully clothed) and we will ascertain specifically what the problem is.  You do not have to relive any past events you just need to be aware of the feelings.  When we have ascertained which words are specific to your particular issue I will demonstrate where the acupressure points are and we will go through them together and then we will do the tapping together saying the specific words we have identified.  You don’t even have to remember the words just repeat them after me.  We would then re-evaluate how you feel and tap again depending on how you are progressing until we have restored your balance and the intensity of the feeling is completely gone.

This can usually be done in a one hour session although sometimes follow up sessions may be required depending on the severity of the problem.

Does the feeling come back?

It is very rare for the feeling to come back although on occasion it may if we have perhaps not identified something at the original session.  If we have been specific about the issue, the feeling will not return.  It is like once you send the log downstream, it will not come back up!  You will of course always retain the memory of whatever the event is that you were working on it will just not have the emotional charge that it had before.

Very often when people work on say anger towards another person they realize that they are also holding on anger towards themselves or other emotions maybe such as guilt or grief.  All of these can be addressed separately although often when you start to disperse one issue the others reduce straight away.

After an EFT session you will leave with your own information sheet which clearly shows you how to continue to carry EFT out on your own at home should you wish to do so.

Does EFT work alongside anything else?

EFT can be used as a stand alone treatment or some clients combine it with life coaching sessions – the choice as always is yours.
